DTL NEWS - "Evans Comes Good "
(Please be patient for the image to load)

The Welsh DTL Grand Prix was held over two days on 28th and 29th June at Mid Wales Shooting Centre.  The Welsh Open was the final day on the 29th June, with 45 squads battling it out for the prestigious overall title of Welsh Open DTL Champion 2008.  As this was also the last Welsh qualifier - the pressure was also on to gain a place in the DTL team to travel to Ireland.

The weather didn't help things along very much, as heavy rain hampered shooters at the top of the ground, but despite this some very respectable scores were recorded.

Things brightened up in the afternoon, but the targets were still being effected by the wind.  Despite this John Evans from South Wales recorded a perfect score of 100/300 - what a fantastic performance, well done John.  This was the one and only perfect score of the day and saw him walk away with the title of Welsh open winner with a great big grin of his face.  John is displayed below with his new piece of silverware:

A number of other trophies and prizes were given out during the day - well done to all those too and to all the class winners.  Some of the trophies are described below:

Hugh Jones Presidents challenge cup  (first 50 points Sat)  Welsh  + £50         E G Parry
Jones Bros challenge shield   HG Sat   open             I Mullarkey

Nobel Industries Open Challenge Cup      (Open) Sun             J A Evans
Subaru Welsh DTL Championship Cup   (Open) 2 day           I Mullarkey
A E Browning Cup kills over 2 days  -  Welsh           D Baugh
A E Browning Cup Points over 2 Days  -  Welsh           E Davies
A E Browning DTL Championship Ladies Trophy         Open   S Ebbrell
Ruth Atkinson Vase Ladies HG  - Welsh             S Ebbrell
Alun Jones Cup  Welsh Veterans Points             M Mc.conville
G Bugler Cup  Veterans Kills         Open   P A Hodges
Gorden Robinson Memorial Trophy   H Gun Junior open  sun           SA Sikorskie
John Osbourne Junior Shield   (under 21 Welsh)     A Biddulph
Norman Aitkinson trophy colt  (under 16)             O Huffer
Bill Wanklyn Cup  Highest Qualifier for DTL Team             A Biddulph

Other notable achievements at this years Grand Prix were from Sharon Ebbrell who not only took the silverware for ladies Welsh high gun but also the overall ladies Welsh Open champion.

A fantastic performance from Junior - Alex Biddulph, which saw him take the trophy for highest qualifier for the Welsh DTL Team.  This is the first time a junior has taken the trophy.  Alex also took the shield for the highest Welsh under 21 as well.
With talent like that coming through the future of Welsh shooting looks bright.  Alex is pictured below being presented his trophy by Arthur Williams.

D Baugh recorded the highest number of kills for the two days not missing a target from the 200 clays.

E Davies took the trophy for the highest number of points by a Welsh shooter for the two days.

With performances like this the team looks in good form to continue battle in Ireland.  Well done to all of the new caps and to the rest of the Welsh team who qualified.

Thanks also to the Williams family for another excellent event at Mid Wales and also to the WCTSA representatives present.

Keep an eye on the DTL International page for the final team placings.

Disabled Shooting Announcement

It is hoped to hold a shoot at Northhall shooting ground on the 15 - 17 October in ABT and Double Trap.  At the moment Finland are sending a party of shooters and Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Cyprus have also interested parties but not yet confirmed.

The main purpose of the shoot is for the Head Classifier of the ISCD (World Governing Body) and hopefully the resident of the ISCD to see a clay shoot with a view to possible competitions at all levels up to Paralympics in the future.

As someone actively involved to this end, I am trying to get some Welsh shooters to attend.  To date there is myself and one other, it is hoped to split the shooters into those who stand and those who sit.

Any interested parties who would like to take part, please contact me on the details below:
