ARCHIVE - 2006 WELSH COUNTY SPORTING FINAL
The 2006 Sporting County
Final was held at
Dovey Valley Shooting Ground on April 30th 2006
Final Shoot Report (Click thumbnails for full image):
The weather, was for once, kind for the five Counties that attended and with friendly rivalry abound, shooting was a pleasure at this ground.
A good mixture of high crossers, teal, quartering and incoming targets to name but a few, provided shooters with something for everyone. And for one shooter, who shall remain nameless, managed to score 11 kills out of 10! Say no more!
This has always been Dyfeds clean sweep of trophies in this discipline, but this year was going to be much harder.
Ian Mead had put together a South Glamorgan team (much
welcomed) that was fielding some top shooters. Powys who have been
the bridesmaids so often, were determined to be the bride this year!
That is exactly what they did - beating South Glamorgan by just five
clays, Powys won the senior event 746 to 741, with Dyfed trailing in third
with 719. Click the thumbnail to see the full image.
But not everything went Powys's way. After a shoot-off
for High Gun, P.Humphreys just lost out to Ian Stubbs (Clwyd) who also
took Captains High Gun on a 91. South Glamorgan did take some
silverware home with them, courtesy of Nicky Evans who won the Ladies High
Gun on a 82, whilst Clwyd cleared up the remaining individual High Gun
trophies with Tom Hayes(Vets 79) and the Juniors Stephen Jones(79) as well
as the Junior and Ladies team event. Dyfed Veterans did at least take
their team event. Click on the thumbnail to see the full image
of the individual winners.
It was nice to see the trophies shared around this year throughout the Counties just to remind ourselves that we can take nothing for granted in this game!
Congratulations to all the new caps who hopefully enjoyed their first taste of competition.
Many thanks to Bill, Sue and all the ground staff for putting on a wonderful and memorable day and to Angie Goodman for all the hard work she puts in behind the scenes for organising yet another really successful county final.
