OSK Welsh Grand Prix report by Alf Weston

Hi Guys

Just a line to let you know how last weekend went for the OSK Welsh Grand Prix

Results for OSK WGP 2024

It looked a bit gloomy as we started the Saturday shoot, but the Gods were with us and the rain stayed off for the day although to start, the light was making target acquisition more difficult. That improved as the day progressed. The Sunday brought comments like “are you sure we’ve arrived at a Welsh club” as the sun was a pleasure early on. Again, the light made things difficult as the day went on and the clouds re-appeared … still no rain! Results are attached above.

The final yesterday was an intense affair which was great for the spectators. The top six started as usual and notable shooters were Richard Cann and Matthew Huxtable. It was Richard and Matthew’s first ever Final and they secured 4th place and Bronze medal as you can see from the sheet.

The best was yet to come as Luke and Tony locked horns going into the last 10 with Luke on 36 and Tony on 34. By the end of 60 targets, they were tied on 43 each so there was now a shoot off. It took 8 targets to separate them… the tension was tangible with Tony finally taking the Gold and Luke the Silver. The referee was superb with a confident Deri Lewis who maintained a good calm discipline throughout. Congratulations all!! The Finals score sheet is also attached above.

There was a host of medals and trophies for all the categories (Colts, Juniors, Ladies, Seniors, Veterans and Super Veterans) medals in the open and Perpetual trophies for Welsh shooters. The John Osborne trophy this year was presented with the Gold medal from the Finals.

A couple of people to mention, our grateful thanks to Rob Harry for the New Veteran Shield which he commissioned, it included past winners and the full original to be held at Crynant SG on display. If you take a look at the list of presentations, there is one name that stands out (richly deserved) … Tony Cox who this year also took the Basil George shield for the lowest points in all the selection shoots… We think it is a record of “Zero points” unless you can tell us different … Congratulations Tony!!

And well done to all who attended, we may be a small group, but the spirit is superb and we now look forward to this year’s Home International in Northern Ireland.
